第五部分 育彼英才(育才学校——社会大学) (1939——1946)

 

在艰苦卓绝的抗战时期,陶行知以一个教育家和社会活动家的充沛精力,推进全面的抗战建国教育。

此时期,陶行知担任国民参政员,参与国民参政会提案,号召要有全面的教育来配合全面抗战;创办中华业余学校,以教育的方式动员侨胞救国;成立生活教育总社,探讨最合理最有效之教育原理与方法,普及抗战建国生活教育大运动;创办育才学校,用生活教育之原理与方法,培养难童中之优秀儿童,使之成为抗战建国之人才,是生活教育运动的新发展;投身民主运动,创办社会大学,为人民幸福办教育,以达“教育为公,天下为公”之理想

From Yucai School to the Social University

1939—1946

 

As an enthusiastic educator and social activist, Tao promoted the “overall wartime education” during the extremely hard and bitter time of the Anti-Japanese War.

During this period of time, Tao, being a member of its committee, submitted some motions to the People’s Political Council, advocating the overall education in coordination with the overall resistance to Japanese invasion. Tao set up the China Spare-Time School, mobilizing compatriots for the national salvation in an educational way. He founded the General Society of Life Educationexploring the most reasonable and effective educational theories and methods, and popularizing the Movement of National Salvation through overall wartime education. BesidesTao established the Yucai Schoolusing the theory and method of life education to cultivate talents of the refugee children and make them talents of “resistance to the Japanese invasion and Chinese national reconstruction”, which is a further development of the theory of life education. What's moreTao threw himself in the Democracy Movement and established the Social Universitypromoting education for the benefit of the Chinese people so as to achieve his ideal of “education serves the public” and “the world belongs to the people”.
